Body Document
Dissatisfied with the fantasy of the dancing body or the reading of dance as ‘style‘ as oppose to a thinking experience. I decided to stop and consider some questions pertaining to the body, its representation and the power, knowledge and spaces that both inscribe upon and produce bodies and their movements. But what to do with all the things I had been educated to do? How to interrupt the resistant processes of education and memory ? In this performance the dancers bodily knowledge is seen as an archive for style reproduction interrogating the notion of forgetting as a mechanism for rewriting conditioned movement patterns.
‘‘'Minotaur ‘In 1997 the short solo entitled ‘Minotaur’ looked at the theme of head and body separation as a means by which to question human identity .This idea revisited in ‘Silencio’ a collaborative performance with the painter Mark Sadler.
‘Corresponding‘
Exploring the relationship between choreography and new music ‘Corresponding‘ developed at L‘animal en L‘escena, Girona, and Glagow‘s CCA with the electro-accoustic composer Peter Dowling and was presented at the National Review of Live Art / New Terretories 2004. It looked at the thresholds of hearing perception and the relationship between improvisation and score through utilising a real-time interactive system (Mac-MSP). Devising a flexible system of compositional rules, the collaboration facilitated a dialogue between the performers and enabled live play within an accumulative structure of performance material decided apon autonomously by each collaborator
